Italian couturiers Bottega Veneta have this month embarked on their most momentous collaborative project to date. For the next five weeks New York retail stalwart, Bergdorf Goodman, will play host to the first ever Bottega Veneta invasion.

Supplementing Veneta’s main floor fashion and accessory concessions, Creative Director Tomas Maier has produced a full 7th floor retail take over. Regular residence of the homes department, the entirety of Veneta’s Living collection has been artfully littered around the space. Read more…

On February 18, 2009 Giorgio Armani came to the most celebrated street in New York.

On February 18, 2009 Giorgio Armani came to the most celebrated street in New York. Fifth Avenue has been the focal point of many contemporary and historical events, and has featured in novels such as Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence, and countless films in which its most famous buildings such as the Empire State Building or the New York Public Library have played a major part. As for the museums, there are so many that the section that fronts Central Park is known as Museum Mile.

Giorgio Armani’s words:

A really exciting challenge – that is how I would describe our new concept store, Armani/5th Avenue in New York. It is a special project requiring a degree of courage, as it brings together in one space different elements such as Armani Jeans and Emporio Armani side by side with Giorgio Armani. I was determined to send out a clear message of change, interpreting the current trend for mixing genres, juxtaposing items in different price brackets. You could say that this is a provocative move – uniting in the same place and with the same furnishings, without visible boundaries, the various collections that combine to form the entire Armani universe.

This freedom of expression defines for me the spirit of Fifth Avenue: a prestigious shopping destination, of course, but one that is less exclusive in character than comparable addresses, with a democratic mood which I am certain represents the future. I worked on the creation of this store with Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas, whose hugely respected architectural practice is known for bringing a precisely judged sense of glamour to clothing stores. This is the third project we have jointly accomplished, following on from Armani/Chater House in Hong Kong and Armani/Ginza Tower in Tokyo, and significantly all three offer totally distinctive environments, each different from the other, because I contend that identical retail spaces, monolithic and repetitive, belong in the past and cannot match the experience offered by a totally original store which introduces the public to the aesthetic excitement of fine contemporary architecture.

Check out the architects’ site.

Nicole Bridger

The buzzword is “eco-fashion” these days and you might be asking yourself, what on earth is eco-fashion anyway. Basically it is stylized clothing that uses environmentally sensitive fabrics and responsible production techniques. Canadian designer Nicole Bridger believes in taking care of the earth and its people by using socially conscious fabrics that are from natural and renewable resources. She spreads the word of love through her affirmation labels ‘I am love’ in each piece of clothing.

Nicole Bridger was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. She obtained her BAA in fashion design from Ryerson University in Toronto ON. She then went to London, UK to intern at Vivienne Westwood where she learned the art of sculpting fabric and returned with an understanding of doing more than just making clothes. Bridger came back to Vancouver looking to learn some of the business side of things and paired up with the owner of Lululemon Athletica to co-create Oqoqo, a casual eco clothing line. She was then ready to put her design and business sides together to create her own label of socially conscious contemporary women’s wear, Nicole Bridger.

Chanel Paris-Moscou Movie by Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld opened his pre-fall Chanel show in Paris last week with the ten-minute silent film, and it’s all due to Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld, who donned a director’s hat and let rip his encyclopedic knowledge of Gabrielle Chanel’s early years.

“Today, people are ready for silent movies again, as they spend time — hours, I would say — looking at text messages and e-mails,” says Lagerfeld. “I always loved silent movies.”

The designer gathered some familiar members of his entourage, including model Brad Koenig and his bodyguard/private secretary Sébastien Jondeau for the cast, along with model Edita Vilkeviciute, her gamine allure, jutting chin and ramrod posture creating a beguiling portrayal of the young Coco from 1913, when the legendary designer first set up shop.

adidas Originals House Party

adidas Originals is celebrating “60 Years of Soles and Stripes” by creating its largest global brand campaign, which includes the brand’s first-ever TV commercial, “House Party.” To celebrate 60 years of soles and stripes, adidas is throwing a House Party.

2009 marks the 60th anniversary of adidas registering the iconic 3-Stripes mark introduced by company founder Adi Dassler. In keeping with this important milestone, adidas will unveil its largest global brand campaign ever for adidas Originals under the banner of Celebrate Originality. The campaign is set against the backdrop of a house party hosting an eclectic mix of people from the worlds of music, fashion and sport. To reflect this, the creative features musicians and icons Katy Perry, Estelle, Young Jeezy, the Ting Tings, DMC-Daryl McDaniels, Method Man, Redman, Afra, Ryukyudisko, Russell Simmons and Missy Elliott, athletes Kevin Garnett, David Beckham, Ilie Nastase and Mark Gonzales, and designers Kazuki and Jeremy Scott.

The “House Party” was directed by Nima Nourizadeh and features the track Beggin’ remixed by Pilooski. The creative will come to life in a complete through-the-line offering including two television spots, cinema, digital, retail, activation events and a print campaign shot by RJ Shaughnessy. Montreal-based agency Sid Lee created and produced the global campaign.

It’s an event you’re not going to want to miss. adidas is bringing together your favorite entertainers, icons and athletes all under one roof. And with everybody under one roof, things are going off.
