Just weeks after Opium shut its South Beach doors and moved to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino complex near Hollywood, the guys behind the hugely successful megaclub crobar/Cameo are opening a joint at Fort Lauderdale beach. So, is SoBe style migrating north?

Not necessarily. Exit 66, which has its grand opening Wednesday night, is about as far from glam and velvet rope exclusion as one can get. The club aims to take trucker chic to the next level, billing itself as “a fusion of American life with a dose of ’60s kitsch, wrapped up in the sex appeal of the eternal mud flap vixen.”

Cal Fortis, who designed the laid-back America’s Backyard parties at Revolution in Fort Lauderdale, says he was going for a similar vibe, but with a twist. “Instead of backyard Americana, it’s the back roads of America, which are much darker and a little dirtier and sexy. So that idea developed into a fictional character named Billy and his journey along Route 66 and all of his roadside experiences. Call it Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas meets Road Trip.”

Exit 66 features five whimsically themed rooms: Woody’s Bar and Pleasure Liner Lounge (a rock ‘n’ roll bar), Cool Pool (inspired by Paul Newman’s 1963 billiards film, The Hustler), Madame B. Atch’s Bunny Ranch (a burlesque saloon), Chiki-Tiki (a surreal Gilligan’s Island) and the main room, Exit 66, with Billy’s Bar (inspired by the ’60s biker flick Easy Rider).

Fortis says that although Exit 66 intentionally departs from SoBe style, it’s no drop in quality. ”This is the level of a world-class nightclub,” he says. “It has the bones of what we’ve done with crobar in Miami, New York and Chicago, just in a more theatrical, economy-driven way.”

That means instead of having to spend $500 on VIP bottle service, Exit 66 will offer ”30 Pabst Blue Ribbon longnecks in a champagne bucket,” says Fortis. The club will be overflowing with tongue-in-cheek attitude.

Just as Delano brought unprecedented style to up-and-coming Miami Beach in the ‘90s, Mondrian South Beach, is pioneering revolutionary, world-class design in a growing neighborhood for a new generation of style-conscious travelers.

Mondrian’s Main Swimming Pool

Around the pools, gardens and bay, Mondrian South Beach makes playful use of space with multiple outdoor living areas. A large swimming pool is adorned with an oversized custom lamp by plunge pools, a pool bar and cabanas for private rental, and surrounded by lush gardens hung with hammocks and landscaped into a labyrinthine trail with lounge areas, secret pathways and “kissing corners.” A second level terrace offers flexible entertaining spaces for dining, private events, and enjoying the superb sunset views. A separate kids’ pool and play are includes a tented sandbox and toy room and large cabanas for family rental. Jet skis, boating and water sports are offered on the bay.

The indoor lobby, decorated in exuberant style with oversized furniture and motifs inspired by fairy tales, connects via a dramatic elliptical staircase to the mezzanine, event spaces and meeting rooms. Public areas include a five-star restaurant, Agua, our 4000’ spa featuring wet and dry treatment rooms, and a fully-equipped gym over looking the bay.

Canyon Ranch Miami Beach

Created by noted New York design firm MOVK, Southern Florida’s largest wellness spa provides a total sensory experience giving potential residents a tangible sense of the Canyon Ranch Living healthy living philosophy.

The Canyon Ranch Miami Beach sits oceanfront with multiple pools, wellness centers and healthy restaurants. Each one or two bedroom suite offers a big balcony, a sitting area and even a kitchenette. There are physicians on staff (presumably to evaluate your health and design a program for your stay, not prescribe meds for a bad hangover), as well as nutritionists, life coaches, and fitness instructors.

“Canyon Ranch Living is the natural evolution of the Canyon Ranch experience,” says Mel Zuckerman, founder of Canyon Ranch. “The project is the fulfillment of Canyon Ranch’s longtime mission to develop a community where residents can embrace the joy of healthy living.”

Designed by Jean Michel Gathy, and Jaya Ibrahim , The Setai bears the unmistakable imprint of legendary hotelier Adrian Zecha. The concept of The Setai began with two fundamental ideals: a vision of unprecedented luxury and service; and one of the most prized pieces of oceanfront property in South Beach. The Setai comprises two buildings, different yet built on the same foundations of superlative service and exceptional design. The Art Deco landmark building was originally built between 1936 – 1938 as the famed Dempsey Vanderbilt Hotel. Next to it is the 40-story glass tower that surpasses all around it in elevation, views, and design. The Art Deco building is an exquisitely refurbished property that celebrates its history while embracing Asian influences. The impeccable details of each guest room are exemplified by authentic jade pieces that were discovered in the antique markets of China and displayed to perfection on teak walls.

Se – tai is actually the fusion of the first and last syllables of the words ‘Selatan Pantai’ which means South Beach in the South East Asian Bahasa language. The hotel has a choice of two restaurants – an upscale Asian restaurant, and a more casual grill. The Restaurant at The Setai feature authentic Asian cuisine from countries such as China, Thailand, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Led by the talented Jonathan Wright, a team of chefs, originating from these countries, prepares the food in an open ‘demonstration’ kitchen. The result is innovative Asian-inspired cuisine and contemporary comfort foods. The comfortable, relaxing Grill blends the warmth of the rustic hearth with luxurious surroundings.

The Spa at The Setai transports the traditions of the Pacific Rim to South Beach. The treatments open the door to a world dedicated to the restoration and realignment of the body and the spirit. Three pools are set at different temperatures, and gorgeous cabanas are spread throughout tropical gardens and flowing fountains.

The Setai creates a private world that connects guests with what has always been the greatest attraction of South Beach: the sea, the sun and the beach.

<ahref="http://www.delano-hotel.com/" target="new">Delano is a cool haven of relaxation in the middle of one of the world’s most vibrant cities, located in the heart of South Beach and directly on the ocean, Delano represents the next generation of “Urban Resort” – where the notions of the “Indoor/Outdoor Lobby” and the idea of “Simple Chic” were initiated. This 238-room Deco tower, built in 1947 and and named, in the patriotic spirit of that postwar time, after President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In the mid-1990s, the hotel was given a makeover by Ian Schrager and designer Philippe Starck.
