Sasha always had a unique relationship with New York City. His residency at Twilo and Crobar became an integral part of bringing electronic music to the US. World-renowned dj and producer Sasha was paying homage at Webster Hall this past Friday November 7th for one his final performances on the Invol2ver Tour.
In addition to the massive success of Invol2ver, Sasha was named Top Progressive House DJ this year at the DJ Awards in Ibiza. Needless to say, expectations were really huge before the show.
As an opening act the Berlin-based artist Ulrich Schnauss kept the packed place ready and warmed up the room till 1.30. After such a stellar kick off, Sasha started to build up as vocals swirled in and out as echo effects and bubbling basslines are brought to the forefront. Sasha looked happy in front of the flashing stars, obviously he was riding on an amazing vibe. He had the crowd in his hand from the moment he took the decks to the moment the lights came on. As Sasha got further and further into his set, the crowd got more and more into his music.
It was like a futuristic theatrical experience, with Sasha controlling the soundtrack. Without exaggeration, it reminded those crazy “Sasha Fundacion” parties at Crobar. Incredible multicolored lasers shined brightly above the dancefloor and crowd was interacting with the visuals, confetti rain, beach balls flying around and the giant disco ball that dropped as his set rocked on. When Sasha dropped “Shakedown’s At Night” into the room on those speakers, Webster Hall was completely full and hands were in the air…
Perhaps the biggest tune on “Invol2ver” Sasha´s big room take on Ladytron´s “Destroy Everything You Touch” was another highlight of the night. Sasha ended the night around 5.30 with “Gebrun Gebrun” which is also in the soundtrack of Paul Kalkbrenners movie Berlin Calling.
