NYC based photographer Phillip Toledano believes that every photograph should start with an idea, whether it be a single image or series. One of his ideas was to create an “external manifestation of the internal desires and paranoia that are adrift in America.” In short, Hope & Fear.
Phillip Toledano’s photographs are a contemporary representation of what he believes to be the hopes and fears that run through America today. Phillip Toledano has shot a wide variety of topics from the desolation of the Arctic Circle to devilish video game enthusiasts to a surreal yet thoroughly modern exploration of the American subconscious in his series, Hope & Fear. The warp and weft of the American dream are changing, and these changes are worn by the people in this series. While one man is covered in babies of every colour, a woman is touched by a multitude of hands.
