A Live Remix Of The Presidential Debates

Sosolimited

ReConstitution is a live audiovisual remix of the first presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama. Three MIT graduates, designed a software that allowed them to sample the television broadcast in real time, extracting the video, audio and closed captioning text. This nonpartisan hybrid of video art and performance exposes the themes, content, and structure behind the sound and images of the debate.

This concept and the supporting software are the brainchild of three audiovisual artist who form the group, Sosolimited. Each spoken word is catalogued, analyzed, and displayed with the transformed video signal—the visuals react instantaneously to the physical movement of the candidates, the tone of their voice and the words they speak, weaving an exciting and unpredictable narrative. The results are projected on to a large screen for the audience. The artists hope to attract a diverse audience and fuel interest in the debates by presenting them in an exciting new format, morphing words and images into a nonpartisan spectacle of light and sound.

There will be three performances in three cities, each coinciding with a live broadcast of the debates.
September 26 - ICA Boston
October 7 - Art Directors Club, NYC
October 15 - The Corcoran, DC
