Coolest (literally) Place in Vegas: Minus 5

Minus 5 Ice Lounge

The first permanent sub-freezing ice lounge of its kind in the U.S Minus 5 Experience is coming to Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay in September, where you can touch, feel, and explore handcrafted ice sculptures and ice architecture made from 100% pure Canadian ice. Named for its constant frosty temperature of minus five degrees (twenty-seven degrees Fahrenheit), thousands have flocked to experience this unique concept.

Everything inside minus5 is made of ice; the walls, the bar, the sculptures, the seats and glasses. Once commencing the tour, guests are kitted out in Eskimo-like ice gear which includes insulated jackets, gloves and sheepskin-lined boots. Ready to brave the cold in sub-Antarctic conditions, guests move into two chambers for briefings before arriving into the Ice lounge. Once inside the lounge, guests can explore the ice lounge and relax on ice couches covered in deer skin, and sip on a wide range of vodka cocktails using only the world’s premium vodkas, served in custom-designed ice-glasses made from NZ artesian water created using pure New Zealand artesian water. The nightspot will also feature an adjacent Aspen-style ski lodge, which is themed after Arctic explores.

Hotelier Craig Ling who launched the first of his ice bars in Auckland in 2002 and Queenstown in 2004 is extremely excited to be bringing the minus5 experience to Las Vegas. “I can’t think of a better place to chill out in Las Vegas than inside minus5! Las Vegas is renowned for cutting edge bars, but we are sure that minus5 will be the coolest,” says Craig, “we’ve secured a fantastic site in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and we are looking forward to becoming a part of the cityscape.”
