The Man Behind Adidas: Adi Dassler

Adidas

Adidas spells “All Day I Dream About Sport”, is one of the most recognized brands in the world, that crosses genders, age groups and social classes. The company founder Adi Dassler was inspired by a single idea when he made his first shoes in 1920, at the age of just 20. His vision was to provide every athlete with the best footwear for his respective discipline.

Jesse Owens wore adidas track shoes, during his spectacular Olympic performance in 1936, where he earned four gold medals. And Armin Hary was the first athlete to run the 100-m sprint in 10 seconds, also wearing Adidas shoes. In 1949, Dassler created the first soccer shoe with molded rubber studs, adopting the trademark three stripes. The breakthrough came for Adi Dassler when Germany won the Soccer World Cup in 1954. In the legendary final against Hungary, the German team wore boots with screw-in studs – by Adidas.

Today the world refers to Dassler as the founder of the modern sporting goods industry. Here is the animated video of the man behind Adidas - Adi Dassler - whose name was shortened to create the Adidas brand name. The video was created by the agency 180 Amsterdam Digital and directed by Martin Krejci of Stink.
